The Light at the End of the Tunnel?
Positive signs in the economy and the transportation industry may mean we're on the road to recovery.
According to some experts, the recession seems to be easing its grip on us. Although it may still be awhile before we see signs of improvement overall, there are already signs in the transportation industry; namely improved earnings reported by publicly traded trucking companies, an increase in the sales, leasing, & service businesses, and an increase in truck orders. It looks like those that have made it this far may pull through the economic mess. But after breathing a small sigh of relief for having made it this far, it is important to be aware of new industry developments; CSA 2010 will begin coming into play this year, the FDA is looking for new guidelines to ensure refrigerated product integrity during transit (see back page), and shippers are placing more emphasis on technology for moving and tracking their freight. Fuel prices are on the rise (again), and the DOT has issued the new EOBR rule for consistent HOS violators (and will be looking to expand the rule to a broader population of commercial drivers later this year). So, check into your CSA rating to see where you stand. Look into investing in some of the new tracking and HOS technology that makes running a truck/company easier and more efficient. Maintain the good business practices that keep the customers coming back for more. And remember, that small dot at the end of the tunnel is getting bigger every day.
